Position Paper – Part Three

Name: Eliott Crawford

We interviewed individuals to see what their response would be to my plan. Their responses are as follows.

They all but two people said it's good idea! They said it give the government money to fix the economy and make the U.S wealthy once more.
"It's an idea that everyone should keep in mind, welfare is nothing to be proud of, use it if you need it and if you dont stop screwing america over." Terrance Hall said.

"That makes sense. If your going to give people money atleast make them go though mandadotry drug testing to make sure they are not using the money to spend on drug . They are supposed to spend money on necessities not other stuff."said Russel Martens. When asked if the welfare recipients were to be given a debit card that would track their spending." That would be the greatest idea ever. That would stop alot of welfare fraud." he replied. He also said that he would much rather have our taxes go to the people of our country other then other countrys. Such as Hati. So he is not fully against welfare. He recognizes that some people need it.

"I think its an oppertunity to let U.S. citizens get a job and finally stand on their own two feet." said Austin Palermo.

"That the poor deserved to be poor and that working hard for money is the key to a better job and that I should work hard to become someone when I grow up. She has a rather old world style of thinking because of her hardships of coming to America when she was a teenager." said Kenny's mom.
Linda Ly who is 23 years old said that our proposal to eliminate wellfare was not good and that wellfare helps a lot of people who a poor and need it. She based her beliefs primarily on the people she knew who were young and had kids that needed government help because they did not graduate high-school and try hard to get a job. Her boyfriend was also the same way because of his life where he grew up in neighborhoods that were primarily the poor working class.

"Well that would not be good for the people that would have been relying on their whole lives. If they were to take that money away they most likely wouldnt go get a job they would turn to crime to get money." said Corinna Murphy. She of course is talking about people who live in the bad parts of cities. They have the "Ghetto mind set" and instead of getting a job they would most likely turn to crime to replace the lost income from welfare.

Based on research, to their objections and concerns are that welfare should still be eliminated even though the poor will be left to their own devices and may crash and burn. My coleage is opposed to anything less than eliminating wellfare and my other coleages do not seem to side with my objections. Athough I do not fully support eliminating welfare, it would be in the government's interest to do so. But some are threaten by the thought of those who will turn to a life of crime, or others would wouldnt get money. If these people do the right thing and get a job, then everything will be just fine.
